The next five minutes decide whether this is a repair bill or a headline. A covered strike is the one thing Nova cannot survive being caught at.
Do it in this order — every time
- GAS: everyone upwind and away. No engines, no smoking, no ignition source of any kind. Then 911.
- ELECTRIC: nobody near the machine and nobody on the ground around it. Treat all of it as live.
- Stop work. Nothing gets moved, fixed, pulled out, or covered.
- Photograph it untouched, before anything changes.
- ONE caller. The Supervisor calls the utility's emergency line and the Owner. No double-calling, no crowd on the phone.
- A nick, a scratch, a scrape counts as a strike. Report it exactly the same way.
- Damage report the SAME DAY — facts and photos only, never fault language.
- Keep the 811 ticket and the locate screenshots. That is the strike defense, and it is the whole case.
- Private property counts too — sprinkler, fence, mailbox, lawn rut. Report it before the homeowner finds it.
- Say nothing about fault to anyone on site. Not the utility man, not the homeowner, not the inspector.
US FIRST KEEPS IT A REPAIR. THEM FIRST MAKES IT A FIGHT. Every damage Nova reports before somebody else finds it stays a line item. Every one that gets found first becomes a claim, and the claim becomes the EMR, and the EMR is what a prime looks at before they let Nova bid.
NEVER — THESE FOUR END IT
- Never cover a strike, a nick, or a scratch.
- Never restart work to “get past it” before the utility clears the site.
- Never let two people call the utility — one caller, the Supervisor.
- Never admit fault or promise a fix to anyone standing there.
