IF SOMEBODY GETS HURT
NOVA SKILL MODULE M-13
Read: 5 min
Full rules: NU-OPS-009
People before paper. The first ten minutes decide whether this is a first-aid entry or a claim that follows Nova's bid eligibility for three years.
Do it in this order — every time
- Beyond first aid — 911 FIRST. Do not move him unless the scene is unsafe.
- One man goes to the road to meet the ambulance. They lose time hunting for the site.
- Supervisor calls the Owner. Every injury past first aid, every time. “Didn't want to bother you” is not a reason.
- Even a band-aid gets reported the same day. Late-reported injuries look fake, and they cost more.
- He does not drive himself to treatment. Somebody drives him.
- Incident Report before anybody goes home — facts, times, witnesses, photos. No fault, no opinions, no “I think.”
- The injured man writes his own account if he is able to.
- Equipment involved gets red-tagged and held. Nobody “fixes” it before the carrier looks at it.
- Photos, 811 tickets, and locate screenshots into the WO folder the same day.
- Root cause written within 48 hours, and the book gets fixed within the week.
THE CLOCKS THAT FINE US: fatality → OSHA at 1-800-321-6742 within 8 hours. Hospitalization, amputation, or loss of an eye → same number, 24 hours. Any treatment past first aid → workers' comp carrier within 24 hours. These run whether anybody remembers them or not.
NEVER — THESE FOUR END IT
- Never admit fault — to the employee, the client, the utility, or another driver.
- Never promise “we'll cover everything.”
- Never let an injured man drive himself to a clinic.
- Never settle in cash instead of filing. A $200 clinic bill handled off-books becomes an uninsured $50K claim when it gets worse.
